But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (2 Tim 4:17-18)

Here is a promise that sustained the Apostle Paul. Whatever dangers descended upon him, because he sought to proclaim the gospel to the Gentiles, he would be rescued by God.

What was Paul’s security? It was not in how much money he had, the crime rate of the neighborhood he lived in, how many friends and connections he had. It was firmly and solely in the Lord’s ability to save him out of every circumstance.

The safest place to be on this earth is not a place surrounded by the securities this earth has to offer. It is humbly and confidently carrying out God’s purpose in this world, namely to Glorify Himself through the proclamation of Jesus Christ. Even when this leads us through the valleys of the shadows of death where friends and finances desert us. While following our Lord we have the promise, no matter what evil deed comes our way, the Lord will resucue us and bring us safely into His heavenly kingdom.

That is safety to rest in!
